Farmville Central showed the crowd at Dave Smith Gym what the top team in the 2A East looked like with a 94-67 victory Friday night to stay undefeated against North Carolina opponents.

The Jaguars (19-1, 9-0) used relentless backcourt pressure to jump out to a 10-2 advantage, then held the Pack (9-11, 5-3) to four points in the second quarter for a 54-24 halftime lead.

“We didn’t handle their pressure well early, then they made us play faster than we wanted to in the second quarter which caused too many turnovers,” Washington coach David Allewalt said.

“They are the top team in the East for a reason, but I thought we competed well in the second half and didn’t quit.”

WHS outscored Farmville Central 22-15 in the third quarter and put three players in double figures.

Junior guard Jerai Davenport tied for game scoring honors with 19 points, junior post player Gary Payne had 15 to go along with double figure rebounds and sophomore Javon Williams had 14.

University of New Orleans commit Jah Short had 19 to lead Farmville Central, whose only loss came in the John Wall Holiday Tournament in Raleigh, 79-74, to Don Bosco Prep from New Jersey.

The Jags also won the girls game, 61-40, to raise thier record to 12-6 and 6-3 in the conference. Senior Hayley Whitley led Washington (0-14, 0-8) with 16 points, while junior Triniti Burke had 10.
