Raiders teams split during busy week

On Tuesday PCA hosted Northeast Academy in conference action. The Lady Raiders jumped out to a 27 – 13 halftime advantage and never looked back, defeating the Eagles 49 – 22. Reagan Stoop led Pungo with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Fellow senior Ashley Williford had eight points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Allison Sawyer added seven points and seven boards.

In the boys game, the Raiders outscored the Eagles 54 – 10 in the first two periods to coast to a 75 – 53 victory. Quay Artis paced the Raiders with 15 points and nine assists. Drew Van Staalduinen (11), Jay Askew (10) and Braden Armstrong (10) all had double figures for the Raiders as all active players scored. Van Staalduinen and Austin Garrish each had 10 boards.

Thursday, PCA hosted Crossroads Christian of Henderson in a top five clash. The Lady Colts came out swarming, scoring 41 points in the first two periods and holding PCA to just 13. The offensive onslaught continued in the third quarter as Crossroads went up 40 with a running clock to finish the game. The Lady Colts gave the Lady Raiders their third loss, 61 – 27. Abbey Cutler led the Raiders with eight points.

The Raiders traveled to Lawrence Academy on Friday in a crucial conference matchup as both teams could secure top two seeds in the upcoming conference tournament with wins.  The Lady Raiders defense held the Lady Warriors to just four combined points in the second and fourth quarters to grind out a 41 – 25 win. Stoop led the Raiders with 22 points and 13 rebounds. Ginny Grace Pugh added 10 points and five rebounds.

In the boys game the Raiders played even with the Warriors through the first quarter, but the Warriors started to get hot from deep and the Raiders couldn’t find an answer and Lawrence ran away with an 89 – 58 victory. Artis led PCA with 22 points and five assists. Van Staalduinen posted another double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Garrish chipped in eight points and 12 boards. The Raiders had just seven healthy players for the game as Maddox Lee, Bo Spencer and Brandon Tooley were out with sickness/injuries.

PCA hosted Ridgecroft School on Tuesday this week and travels to Terra Ceia on Friday in conference play. The boys also travel to Mattamuskeet on Thursday in nonconference action. The girls are 18 – 3 and 7 – 1 in conference play while the boys are 15 – 6 and 6 – 2. The girls need one win this week to lock up first place while the boys can secure second place with a win Tuesday.
