Southside head wrestling and assistant football coach Stanley Dixon will add the title of head baseball coach to his resume this spring.

Dixon, who was named Southside’s teacher of the year for the 2021-22 school year, teaches Welding and Core Construction in addition to coaching three sports.

He replaces Daniel Folk, who resigned after three seasons to spend more time with his family.

“I just like being out there with the kids,” he said. “The best part of coaching to me is the relationships you form and the positive impact a good coach can have on a player.”

Dixon, who graduated from Washington High School spent four seasons an assistant to former head baseball coach Kevin McRoy, who now teaches at P.S. Jones. McRoy will return as Dixon’s assistant this spring.

“It was not good for the kids or the baseball program to not have a coach when it was time to start winter workouts, so I decided to do it,’ Dixon said. “Coach McRoy has been working with them while the wrestling season is still going on and I’ve been with them several times also. It will be nice to be back on the baseball field again.”

The Seahawks finished third in the Coastal Palins Conference last year with a 5-5 record and went 10-10 overall.

The season-opener is March 1 at home against North Pitt.
