13 swimmers will hit the water in multiple events for Washington and Southside in the 1A/2A East Regional in Cary Saturday evening.

Pam Pack freshman Aubrey Woolard is the top seed in the girls 50 freestyle, with Seahawks senior Delta Cole right behind her as the second seed.

Woolard is the fifth seed in the 100 butterfly and part of the seventh-seeded 400 freestyle relay, the ninth-seeded 200 free relay and the 10th-seeded 200 medley relay with classmate Lydia Smith and seniors Elana Hill and Abby Lewis.

Cole is also seeded second in the 100 freestyle.

“Delta and Aubrey have been swimming with East Carolina Aquatics for several years and Scott Pake and his assistant have worked with them a lot,” WHS coach Kendall Cox said. “Both girls attend their ECA and WHS swim practices every day. Delta will hopefully make it back to state in the 50 free and I’m hoping Aubrey will make her debut this year. They are both talented swimmers and I’m proud of them for working hard all season.”

On the boys side, seniors John Hinchey and Austin Waters, along with freshmen Evan Makepeace and Cayden Pake are seeded fifth in the 200 medley relay and sixth in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

Southside’s Ty Cole is the sixth seed in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke.

For Washington, Hinchey is eighth in the breaststroke, Makepeace is 11th in the 100 butterfly, Connor Lewis is 13th in 200 individual medley and 15th the 100 butterfly, Luke Brown is 19thin the 50 freestyle and 23rd in the 100 free, while Victor Hill is 22nd in the 50 free.

The top six in each event qualify for the state meet, also in Cary, February 9 along with the six best times from all three regionals that didn’t already qualify.
