Wilmington — From kayaking the Grand Canyon to ocean kayaking in the Masonboro Island area, Steve enjoyed life. There were road trips with Lee Ann, hiking and camping with Landon, laughing with Hannah and boating, fishing and the beach with Madeline, James and Maggie – who called him “Bop.” Steve was unique. He was an adventurous, loving, funny and authentic guy with a profound love for his family. He loved and respected the ocean. Add his “Old Salt” hat and you have the definition of Steve McWilliams 68, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who passed at home Tuesday November 29, 2022.

A native of Wisconsin, he was born April 27, 1954, son of the late Dale and Naomi McWilliams. He is predeceased by infant daughter Karlie Ann. He is survived by Lee Ann, his wife of 46 years; son Landon (Hannah) McWilliams; daughter Madeline (James) and granddaughter Maggie Varner; brothers Jim (Carmen) McWilliams and Tom (Allison) McWilliams. Steve retired from Duke Energy in 2021 following a 43 year career.

He will be honored in April with further details to be shared at a later date.
