Two Pam Pack wrestlers are still competing after junior Bryant Smith lost, 2-0, in a hard-fought match to Hendersonville’s Dennis Waters in the 2A semi-finals Friday at the state tournament in Greensboro.

Smith pinned his Providence Grove opponent in the first round and advanced to the semi-finals with a decision over a Wilkes Central foe in the second round, before falling in the semi-finals.  Smith, the East Regional champion, has already clinched a top-six finish and All-State honors.

Freshman Gabe Foreman (138 lb.) bounced back from a first round loss to win his next two matches wrestler to stay in contention. He will resume Saturday morning.

Elsewhere freshmen Tate Tucker and David B. Meza lost their first two matches, while juniors Christian Price didn’t make weight and TraQuon Haywood couldn’t wrestle after violating team rules.

Junior Braxton Woolard won his first match in the 120 lb. division, then lost to a Trinity opponent, which put him in the consolation bracket. He lost his second consolation match to end his season.

The 1A state tournament also started Friday.  Northside’s Javion O’Neal and Southside’s Elyjaih Baldwin both lost their first round matches in the double-elimination event.
