Milton Lee ‘Bud’ Parker, Sr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 11, 2023 surrounded by family at ECU Health Medical Center. He was 87 years old.

Milton was born in Washington, NC on August 20, 1935. Milton was the son of the late Robert Leonard Parker, Sr. of Weldon, NC and the late Grace Adelaide Jackson Parker of Washington, NC. He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School. He was a lifetime member of First Christian Church of Washington, NC where he was active in the church and served as an elder and a deacon through the years.

On March 19, 1961 he married Helen Virginia Williams of Washington, NC, and they were married for 62 years.

Milton and Helen owned and operated Mohawk Carpet and Home Furnishings where they served Eastern North Carolina for 30 years. Milton was a member of the City of Washington Fire-Rescue-EMS for 22 years. He served in the Army National Guard of North Carolina for nine years.

Milton was a four-year football letterwinner and is an inductee in the Washington High School Walk-of-Fame. Milton spearheaded fundraising efforts for construction of the J.G. ‘Choppy’ Wagner Stadium at Washington High School.

Milton is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; three children Susan Virginia Parker of Winterville, James Winfield ‘Jim’ Parker and fiancée Kimberly Cherré Jordan of Greenville, and Helen “Grace” Parker Cleveland and husband Eric James Cleveland of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Parker Grace Cleveland, Jake Nicholas Cleveland and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Leaonard ‘Bob’ Parker, Jr., sister-in-law, Ann Brinkley Parker; his sister, Martha Elizabeth Parker Worthington and brother-in-law, Darrell Vernon Worthington.

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, NC. A memorial service will be held following the visitation at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory officiated by JD Hughes, Colonel (USA)(Ret).

The family will receive friends from 3:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, March 13th and 3:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, March 14th at the home of Sharon Parker Manning, 308 Thomas Place, Washington, NC.

The following will serve as honorary pallbearers: Tommy Etheridge, Fain Worthington, Eric Cleveland, Alden Manning, Ed Youmans, and Carl Jones.
