On Tuesday Pungo Christian Academy’s softball and baseball teams traveled to Halifax Academy for a crucial NCISAA 1A matchup.

In the baseball game, Evan Woolard had a career day on the mound, striking out 13 and allowing just 2 hits and no runs in 5 1/3 innings. The Raiders built a 7 – 0 lead with Woolard on the mound, but the Vikings rallied after he had to be pulled from the game after throwing his 105^th pitch. Halifax scored eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a one run lead. It was the Raiders turn to rally as they score three runs in the inning. Bo Spencer would cool down the Vikings bats in the bottom of the 7^th, striking out the final batter and sending the Raiders home with their first win of the season, 10 – 8. Jay Askew, Parker Byrd, McKinney Waters and Spencer collected hits for the Raiders. Askew and Waters each stole three bases in their lone contest of the week.

Meanwhile, the Lady Raiders softball team opened the season by allowing six runs in the first inning and five in second in an 11-1 loss at Halifax Academy.

However, PCA recovered quickly with a 6-3 home victory over Faith Christian of Rocky Mount Thursday and a 16-3 five inning rout of Wilson Christian Friday.

The Lady Raiders soccer team traveled to Christ Covenant School in Winterville for a Thursday non-conference match. The Spartans struck first with a goal midway through the first half after a ball took a bad bounce off Bailey Cox into the Raider net. The game would remain 1 – 0 in the Spartans favor until PCA earned their first corner kick with just under five minutes to play. Katie Baxter sent a near perfect kick to midfielder Reagan Walker and her shot found the back of the Spartan net to even things up at 1 – 1. Neither team could get a second goal and the match would finish in a draw. Autumn Gibbs finished with 13 saves on the day. The Raiders are 1 – 1 – 1 on the year.

All Raider teams are in action this week. Baseball hosted Epiphany School

Tuesday and travels to Wilson Christian Thursday. Soccer hosted Epiphany School on Tuesday and John Paul II on Thursday. Softball will host John Paul II on Thursday while the golf team had their first match of the season Tuesday against TIC schools.
