Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Cameron Jones, age 83, a former resident of Washington, died Sunday, April 2, 2023, in Garner, N.C.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday, April 7, 2023, from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, by Rev. Gillian Pollock. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM Friday at Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.

Patricia Ann Cameron Jones (Pat) was born on June 13, 1939, in Pitt County North Carolina to Jesse Sasnett Cameron and Julian Cameron. She grew up in Washington, NC with brothers Gerald and Robbie, and sister Judy. She graduated from Washington High School in 1957. She worked 5 years for Tripp’s Appliance company. During this time, she met her husband Preston “PE” Jones.

Pat and PE were married in 1962. After they were married, they moved to Bunnlevel, North Carolina. In 1963, Pat became a mom, to a son Preston Elwood Jones III. She spent the early years raising her son and establishing a home.

She and her family later moved to the Fayetteville area where they stayed for many years. In 2002, Pat returned with PE to Washington to live near the river and near her brothers.

From 1969 to 1993, Pat worked as a school secretary and touched the lives of many children. She and PE spent much of their life, she as a secretary, and he as a principal, nurturing and educating children.

Pat was active in her church in Fayetteville (Cedar Falls Baptist Church). While there, she was very devoted to the Door of Hope Ministry of South Africa, which meets the needs of babies that have been abandoned.

While in Washington, she and her husband became members of First Christian Church and enjoyed being part of the fellowship.

Pat loved to spend time with her family at the beach.  She also loved to read, knit, and spend time with friends.

In 2022, Pat mourned the great loss of her husband PE. She then moved to Garner, North Carolina to be near her son Preston and daughter-in-law Carrie. During this time, she lived at Foundation Senior Living and enjoyed making new friends and spending daily time with her son and his wife.

During Pat’s last days, all those who cared for her were in awe of strength and faith. She was dearly loved by friends, new and old, and by family.
