Raiders post a winning week

Tuesday the Lady Raiders hit the road for separate venues. The softball team rolled past Arendell Parrott Academy, 14 – 1. Emma Hanna, Reagan Stoop, Melanie Rutledge, Ginny Pugh and Ashley Williford collected two hits. Stoop and Rutledge had doubles. Ellakate Hanna, Allison Sawyer and Kelly Williford also picked up hits in the Raiders victory. Stoop allowed two hits in four shutout innings with five strikeouts.
The soccer team extended their winning streak to three games with a 9 – 0 rout of Albemarle School. Katie Baxter, Julia Rouse and Lexy Tate scored two goals apiece and Destiney Midgette, Bailey Cox, and Reagan Walker also added goals. Baxter (2), Rouse, Midgette and Walker dished out assists for the Raiders while keeper Autumn Gibbs picked up her second shutout of the season.
The golf team hosted their weekly match at Washington Yacht and Country Club. Sam Warren led the Raiders with a 42 as the team placed third for the second consecutive week. Cooper Evans shot a season-low 44 while Davis Lee shot a 48 to put PCA at a season best score of 134. First year players Jay Askew and Grant Gibbs shot a 57 and 63. Warrens score was tied for fourth individually.
Thursday the baseball team hosted undefeated Northeast Academy in their conference opener. The Eagles struck first with a run in the first inning. The Raiders scored 16 unanswered runs in the next two innings, with 14 of those coming in the second inning. Northeast added another run, but PCA prevailed 16 – 2.
Parker Byrd and Jay Askew led the Raiders with two hits apiece. Conner Sweet, Bo Spencer, Austin Garrish, Luke Ross, Wells Eagles, Jackson Walker and Evan Woolard picked up hits. Byrd and Eagles had three runs batted in, while Garrish knocked in two and Askew, Spencer and Woolard all had one RBI. Woolard picked up the pitching win, giving up a run without a hit and striking out three across two innings. Sweet saw his first career action on the mound in the final two innings. He gave up two hits, one run and fanned four.
Monday the Raiders softball and baseball teams hosted Albemarle School. The Lady Raiders were down 2 – 0 after through four innings, but their bats came alive in the fifth to score seven unanswered runs and take home a 7 – 3 win. Emma Hanna was perfect at the plate, going 3 – 3 with a triple. Reese Blackmon added two hits with a double. Ellakate Hanna, Abbey Cutler and Allison Sawyer each added hits for the Raiders. Reagan Stoop went the distance, striking out nine while giving up four hits and three runs.
The baseball team won by the mercy rule again, this time 10 – 0 over Albemarle School.
Conner Sweet, Austin Garrish and Evan Woolard collected two hits apiece, with Woolard hitting a double. Jay Askew, Bo Spencer, and McKinney Waters also picked up hits in the win. Garrish and Woolard each added two RBI. Spencer had a career day on the mound with a one-hit shutout with a career best 11 strikeouts in five innings.
Baseball travels to Northeast Academy and Albemarle school this week while softball goes to Faith Christian and Albemarle School. Soccer hosts Ridgecroft School in a crucial TIC battle Wednesday and the golf team heads to Lasker for a match Tuesday.
