Planet Fitness to make Washington debut this summer

Planet Fitness will open a new 22,000 sq. ft. facility at 1700 W. 5th Street in Washington this summer, according to a press release from the fitness company.

Planet Fitness members can expect new cardio and strength equipment, a large free wights section and abs and stretching area, 30-minute guided workouts, cross training with kettlebells, TRX suspension bands and battle ropes. In addition, members can expect free high speed wifi, 60″ HDTV’s spanning the length of the gym with wireless connections to all cardio equipment, private locker rooms with resort style amenities  including granite countertops, tile, day lockers, individual changing areas and showers, according to the press release.

Members of the new fitness center can sign up and attend free group training as part of their membership.

Those who upgrade to the PF Black Card will have a spa area which will have a private lounge, tanning beds with hybrid light technology, HydroMassage Loungers and massage chairs, Total Body Enhancement pre-workout and a new wellness pod for relaxation and meditation, per Planet Fitness.

“Once open, the new club will be open and staffed 24 hours, Monday through Thursday, 12 a.m. – 10 p.m. on Friday, and 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday,” the press release stated.

Planet Fitness was founded in 1992, but a year later they became the “Judgement Free Zone” gym that it is known as today with its non-intimidating, low-cost model. Their primary focus is to make members feel welcome and comfortable regardless of their fitness level. As of December 2022, it is one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisors and operators of fitness centers in the United States by number of members and locations. There were 2,410 locations as of December.
