With the flag football season upcoming, the Washington Wolfpack is attempting to provide an opportunity for everyone to play with no costs associated.
In doing so, they are having fundraisers to help cover league expenses for the athletes with an estimated goal of $14,000. Currently, the Wolfpack have 3,000 of that goal.
On Saturday, August 17, they will host their first fundraiser selling barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs, and Dip N Dots ice cream at the Chocowinity Rec Center. One barbecue sandwich with chips and a drink will cost seven dollars while two sandwiches, bag of chips, and a drink will cost $10. Hot dogs are going for $1.50 a piece or two for $2.
Along with the food, the Wolfpack will also have a waterslide, cornhole tournament and raffles for guests to enjoy. The cornhole tournament consist of 20 teams and will cost $40 per team with a $250 cash prize for the winner. Presale is available now on the Washington Wolfpack Facebook page with all proceeds going towards kids who wish to but cannot afford to play.
Coach DJ Stanley stresses how important the community is for helping the league grow and keeping these kids involved, “This is not just a Washington league, or a Chocowinity league, it is an Eastern North Carolina league. If the community gets behind us, this could be huge,” Stanley said. “Unfortunately, there are a lot of parents struggling to afford registration fees, and we want to help them and make sure their children can still play because we see the importance of getting kids involved.”
The Washington Wolfpack is getting ready to kick off their season on September 21, for more information about the fundraiser or the league itself, you can check out the Washington Wolfpack Facebook page or contact Coach DJ Stanley or Coach Clarence Baker.
