Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Last week I had lunch with friends I have not seen in 57 years, Jimmy Robinson and Creed Mills from Vanceboro, N. C. There were some others there I haven’t seen on a day-to-day basis but knew personally.

The party put together by Phil Edwards and Bill Nolley, including the All- Star baseball team of 1965. Jimmy and Creed. It was lunch at Marabella’s that Phil and Bill put together, including Lee (Burger) Drake. Burger rode home with me, and I didn’t mind carrying him. He spread some of his magic- telling me, a man isn’t a failure if he has friends.

Jimmy is doing well, and Creed has retired from Weyerhaeuser paper company located in Vanceboro where he grew up. Jimmy is living in New Bern, not far from Vanceboro, selling insurance. We shared good times as we played summer league baseball together.

They played at Farm Life School together and were in the same class. They told stories about others they played against that were in same classifications as them. Washington was in a 3A classification.
Together we got better. We talked about the time we went to St Andrews and shared a room together. Me and Burger stayed in the same room.

I remembered what Lee said to me that night -we were like the New York Yankees, we were spending the night! It was real.

Life was fun back then and we made many memories. If only we were as good back then as we thought we were! Still, it was good seeing Jimmy and Creed as I thought it would be.

The best of times with the best of friends in the best of places, Washington, N.C. The Original Washington!
