Thomas (Tom) Earle Harris

Thomas (Tom) Earle Harris (b. May 27, 1946) of Raleigh passed away November 27, 2024 in the care of hospice and his family. Tom was the youngest son of Edna Clifton and Charlie Thomas Harris.  Tom graduated from Washington High School, class of 1964, and UNC-Chapel Hill journalism school, class of 1968.

Tom was a published author (The Tar Heel Handbook, 1996) and award-winning sports reporter and editor who wrote and was editor for The Washington Daily News, The Martinsville Bulletin, The Raleigh News and Observer, and The Garner Times. Tom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Rosemary Rhodes Harris of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Mary Caroline Harris and her partner, Matthew Paul Lewis of Holly Springs, NC; and son, Charles Rhodes Harris and his wife, Paige Herring Harris, and daughter, Mary Adeline Harris of Garner, NC; his brother, Charles C. Harris and his wife Betty; also, nieces, Susan and Martha Frances.
