Over 30 members of the Covenant Church-Washington gathered Wednesday evening for a potluck dinner and then got down to the serious business of wrapping presents, lots of presents. Four hundred lap blankets and 400 pairs of socks, to be exact, that will be delivered by the Salvation Army to area nursing homes. “Tonight, we are kicking off our Christmas holiday season by supporting the Salvation Army,” said Jay Buckingham, campus pastor at Covenant Church Washington. “A couple of years ago, when we learned about the project, we told them to let us wrap the presents for you. We love to support them and love what they do.”

“There’s only one word that can describe what they did for us, ‘amazing’” said Sgt. Les Ashby, interim commander of the Washington post. “We are so grateful that our churches and volunteers are partnering with us at Christmas time to help us with wrapping gifts, standing on the kettles, volunteering to pick up food for us from different schools, and packing food for our seniors.”

Ashby said the Salvation Army will also be taking 165 care packages to the Beaufort County Jail. “They also need the love of Jesus at Christmas,” he added.
