For the last eight years, Charlene “Bunny” Phillips and her host of volunteers have been preparing and serving Christmas dinner for the homeless and those in need. This year was no different, as they stirred up quite the holiday feast for those looking for a nice warm meal and homemade sweets on the side, which included nine homemade cakes.

The dinner was served between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Zion Men’s Shelter and Soup Kitchen, located at 114 W. Martin Luther King Drive. “It is just in my heart to help the folks out as it sometimes brings me to tears,” said Phillips. “Whatever I’m going to eat, I’m going to serve someone else in need.”

Additional take-home meals were also prepared and brought in by Shantoinette “Shan” Spence and Jasmine Harris, the niece and daughter of the director of the Zion Men’s Shelter and Soup Kitchen, Kieth Harris.

“I really appreciate all of the volunteers taking time out of their Christmas Day to help me with the Christmas dinner,” said Phillips.
