Washington’s Woolard second in 50, 100 freestyle at regionals, headed to states

CARY, N.C. — Washington High School junior Aubrey Woolard finished second in her two individual freestyle races at the Class 1A/2A East Regional swimming competition at Triangle Aquatic Center.
Woolard nearly won both freestyle events. She was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.27, just behind Nash Central’s Madeline Hart (25.22). In the 100-yard freestyle, she finished tied for second with Grace Roberts of NC School fo Science & Math at 56.24. Madelyn Vanasek of Excelsior won in 55.66.
Woolard will participate in the Class 1A/2A state championship on Feb. 8 at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
Woolard was also part of the women’s 200-yard freestyle relay team that placed seventh in 2:00.70. The team consisted of Lydia Smith, Eva Hill, Kathryn Gautier and Woolard.
Washington’s girls finished 10th overall with 82.5 points. The boys were 17th with 30 points.
