Bishop James Lee Woolard was born on June 2, 1935, in Beaufort County, NC to the late Bolden Lamb Woolard and Minnie Williams Woolard. He departed this life on February 4, 2025, at his home. He met and married the love of his life, the late Georgia Mae Woolard. To this union, they were blessed with six children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Georgia Mae Woolard, four brothers: Bolden, Bill T, William, Jr., Early and Tommy; six sisters: Callie Mae, Ethel, Pearl, Beulah, Minnie.

He received his education in the Beaufort County Colored School. Bishop Woolard was a faithful member of Mount Hebron Church of Christ, DOC under the leadership of Reverend G.R. Lovick. It was at Mt. Hebron where he answered the call to ministry. After sensing the call of God for ministry, Bishop Woolard and his wife stepped out in faith and founded the United Church of Christ, known today as the Temple of Jesus Christ in Washington, NC. Bishop Woolard was anointed and appointed – called and commissioned by God to preach and teach the Word of God.  He was a visionary and established many ministries within the church and the community. Temple of Jesus Christ Family Life Center Bishop James Lee Woolard Fellowship Hall, Greater Vision United Fellowship Union, established a chartered school within the Church. Along with a few other ministries.

Bishop Woolard also made a lasting impact on his community. He was known for his generosity and commitment to helping others. He had a unique ability to make others feel seen and valued, and his presence brought light into every room he entered. He taught those around him the importance of serving God, gratitude, and purpose.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his four sons: Ronnie (Sharon), James Al (Carrie), Calvin and Gerald (Cynthia); two daughters: Wanda W. Harvey (Carnell) and Janice Brown; 26 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great, great grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Thomas (Rosalind) and Joseph Bailey; one sister-in-law: Daisy Booth Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Celebration of Life will be Sunday February 9, 2025, at 1:00pm at Temple of Jesus Christ Church 906 West 8th St, Washington, NC 27889. Viewing will be one hour prior to the services from 12:00-Noon- 1:00pm.

Public visitation will be Saturday February 8, 2025, from 3:00pm-6:00 pm Other times the family receiving friends and friends from 5:00pm-8:00pm at the home.
