ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Northside High School’s varsity cheerleading squad took home first place in an event held Saturday in Rocky Mount.

Despite some sickness and injuries, the Panthers took home the top prize in the Performance category. It was the final competition of the season and a successful one for first-year head coach Jackie Small.

The Panthers also won first place in a tournament held recently in Kinston. They also finished second in the Coastal Plains Conference tournament and third in the state competition.
