WASHINGTON, NC – Schewels Home, one of America’s oldest family-operated furniture retailers, is thrilled to announce the grand opening celebration for its new location in Washington, NC. The grand opening will kick off with a ribbon-cutting event on Friday, Feb. 28 at 10 a.m., followed by a weekend of amazing deals and prizes for customers.

“We are thrilled to open our 52nd store and to continue our expansion in Eastern North Carolina,” said CEO Marc Schewel. “We think this community is a perfect fit for our model of affordable home furnishings, exceptional service, and flexible financing.”

Schewels Home took over the storefront previously occupied by Badcock Furniture at the Midtown Crossing Shopping Center.

“We were fortunate to bring most of the Badcock employees on board,” said Matt Schewel, director of store operations. “They are a great team with an extensive knowledge of the furniture business and strong links to the Washington community.”

Store Manager Brandon Davis, who previously managed the location for Badcock, said he was excited to continue serving the store’s customers. “This community has supported me for years, and I’m grateful for the chance to keep building those relationships and creating spaces that bring comfort and joy,” he said.

Founded in 1897 in Lynchburg, VA, Schewels Home is led by fourth-generation owners Marc and Jack Schewel, alongside fifth-generation family members Matt Schewel and Julie Schewel Clark.

Throughout its history, Schewels Home has remained dedicated to helping customers make their homes both beautiful and comfortable. With a broad selection of living room and bedroom furniture, mattresses, home décor, appliances, electronics, and lawn & garden equipment, Schewels Home is committed to providing quality products that are accessible to all.

This commitment extends to flexible in-house financing options, welcoming customers of all credit backgrounds. “We’re committed to affordability—not only through the value of our products, but also with financing that supports every type of credit history,” said Jack Schewel.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do, and this move is about supporting continuity and convenience for local shoppers,”said Julie Schewel Clark. “By retaining familiar faces, we aim to make this transition seamless for the Washington community.”
