When we look at the technical definition of accountability, it’s being responsible for one’s action and or consequences. Accountability is also a channel that affords an individual the opportunity to give back or even return the favor.
One of the most heroic things individuals can do is become responsible for their actions and mess ups.
Being accountable is a personal action one has to be willing to do.
I read an article that entails a story about “four people named everybody, somebody, anybody, and nobody.” There was an important job to be done and everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that, because it was everybody’s job. Everybody thought anybody could do it, but nobody realized that everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that everybody blamed somebody when nobody did what anybody could have done.
There were three observational points I took away from this little article, it was the lack of ownership, responsibility and accountability, which can ruin relationships with family, friends, organizations and even churches.
When no one is held accountable, brokenness will never be mended.
Even the Apostle Paul echoes the message of accountability that God implemented in his letter to the church at Rome.
He was basically telling the Jews and Gentiles that accountability is a norm for that generation and also today’s society.
Praying and asking forgiveness from people and God is very important. There’s people today who think they are above asking forgiveness, and even being above accountability. However they must remember what Solomon mentioned in Proverbs 14:12v. He says their characters appear to be right and acceptable in the eye sight of people, however, the end results can be a spiritual death.
In the Book of Hebrews 13:17v.-18v. His general epistle explains how we should obey our spiritual leaders and be willing to do what he/she asks.
Those leaders have been commissioned by God to be watchmen over the souls of various people. This is a divine order that’s been established by God that many people can be helped, encouraged, corrected and supported.
