Kirk Darryl Blackmon, age 76, a resident of Washington, died Monday, February 10, 2025, at ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington, with Rev. Greg Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, with military honors.
The family will receive friends at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington one hour prior to the funeral service, at other times at the home.
Kirk was born on June 16, 1948, in Cattaraugus County New York to the late Edwin Keith Blackmon and Margaret Fields Blackmon. After graduating from Salamanca High School, he began to serve his country in the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War where he received his purple heart. He continued to serve his country by serving in the North Carolina National Guard. On May 8, 1970, he married the love of his life, Joyce Somers. Kirk retired from Carolina Telephone/Sprint as Central Office Technician. He was a beloved member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He also served as chaplain for the American Legion Post 39 out of Greenville, NC. He was involved with the Pamlico Amateur Radio club as well as the Gideons International. He enjoyed playing golf with friends and family as well as fishing. He really loved spending time with his family, especially his two granddaughters.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Somers Blackmon of the home, daughters, Amanda Blackmon of Washington, and Paula Blackmon Weathington (Monte) of Washington, brother, Matthew Blackmon (Terry) of Washington, sisters, Maurice Patterson of Washington, and Debra Summers (Ken) of Pottstown, PA, granddaughters, Haley and Tenley Weathington.
