Steven Lewis Peyton, 72, of Plymouth, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at Hock Family Pavillion in Durham.

Steve was born in Washington County, on March 1, 1952, to the late Gene Henry and Barbara Matheny Peyton.  He was married to the former Fay Watson, who survives.

Steve spent his working years as a technician in the telecommunication field until he retired in 2008 and then became night security at Cavalier by the Sea in Kill Devil Hills until 2022. After which, they returned to their hometown of Plymouth. Steve enjoyed trying out all the different restaurants on the Outer Banks while they lived there. His hobbies included always having an automobile project going on with oversized tires, watching TV, and talking on the phone (he was a true phone man). In his earlier years, he enjoyed creating haunted houses for Halloween at their home at Albemarle Beach. The 4th of July at Albemarle Beach was also another big celebration with appropriately choreographed music to fireworks launched from the pier. He loved live music and saw many Classic Rock bands and artists through the years. He was a true patriarch of the Peyton family after the passing of his father and took that role on proudly. He loved his dogs and treated them as family members too.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Victory Christian Fellowship, with Stanley Allen and Jimmy Hagwood officiating.  The family will visit with friends in the church fellowship hall, one hour prior to the service.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Michelle McCombs (Phillip) of Garner; a son, Trevor Spruill (Brittanie) of Plymouth; four grandchildren: Rachel and Lauren McCombs, Elizabeth and James Spruill; two brothers, Tim Peyton of Plymouth, and Alan Peyton (Sonja) of Moulton, AL; and a sister, Dianne Peyton Swain of Plymouth; several nieces and nephews; and one aunt, Shelby Peyton Flint of Windsor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Best Friends Animal Society at www.bestfriends.org or Hock Family Pavillion 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham NC 27704.

Arrangements are by Bryan Funeral Service at Hampton Academy, Plymouth.
