The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm watch on Monday, Feb. 17 for Beaufort County and surrounding counties. The watch will go into effect on Wednesday morning (Feb. 19) through Thursday, Feb. 20.
Heavy mixed precipitation is possible, the NWS reports. Total snow accumulations could be between one to three inches and total ice accumulations could be up to three-tenths of an inch.
Because of the ice, power outages and tree damage is likely, NWS said. “Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday morning, evening and Thursday morning commutes.”
Surrounding counties under the same winter weather watch are: Martin, Pitt, Washington, Greene, Duplin, Lenoir, Jones, Pamlico, Northern Craven, Southern Craven and Inland Onslow.
