Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Today, friends, I am going to pass along a questionnaire for you to answer. It won’t take up much of your time, and you just might be inclined to engage in a bit of introspection.

This, to which I refer, is a 2025 Voting Rights Survey prepared and disseminated by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Please don’t turn somewhere else in your paper. Once you actually begin the choosing process, you will understand it. Give it a try. Ready? Here we go:

Do you believe the Far Right is using voter suppression laws to make it more difficult for communities of color to vote?

Which do you think is the greater threat in future elections, voter fraud or voter suppression laws that make it harder for millions to vote?

Do you support efforts to end gerrymandering, which prevents fair representation for communities of color?

Do you support the restoration of the Voting Rights Act to its full power, as was supported by a majority of Congress 18 years ago?

Do you support automatic voter registration?

Do you support no-excuse absentee voting?

Who do you think should oversee administering elections and certifying election results? (Independent elections officers, partisan legislatures, Not sure)

Have you or anyone you know had trouble registering or voting because of unfair rules?

Have you ever witnessed voter suppression or voter intimidation?

What is your age?

Do you consider yourself to be one of the following: Liberal, Moderate, Conservative, Other.

If you made it through all of the way to the end, give yourself a pat on the back.

So. Even in the full, often troubling conditions brought about by the unpleasantness that our form of self-governing can often take, I still cling to the notion that we are all brothers and sisters.

Peace.
