Due to inclement weather, an All-American Cabaret has been postponed to 6 p.m. on March 1 at the Wilkinson Center (144 W. Main St., Belhaven). The cabaret is hosted by Historic Belhaven.
The cabaret was initially planned for Saturday, Feb. 22.
The event — a United Service Organizations (USO) style of show — is being sponsored by the Friends of the Belhaven Public Library as a fundraiser. The show will honor citizens who served in or supported our military through activities, such as the USO, on the home front.
“Most people don’t realize that area waters were valuable training grounds for our Navy, including for PT boats, which were small, fast and maneuverable motor torpedo boats used in World War II,” said Carol Roop, Executive Director of the Belhaven Community Chamber of Commerce. “Belhaven has a proud history of military service, USO participation and an unwavering patriotism by citizens. We plan to honor that strong commitment to protecting America and recognize current and former members of the military during this show.”
According to Roop, students from Elizabeth City State University and Northside High School, as well as a number of area citizens, will be participating in the show featuring music, various acts, a color guard and a large cast, including celebrity character impersonators. Tickets are available for $50 each at the Belhaven Public Library at 333 East Main Street, Belhaven.
