Southside grad helps Fayetteville State win CIAA title again

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Southside High School star KaNyah O’Neal helped the Fayetteville State women’s basketball team repeat as CIAA Tournament champions last Saturday.

O’Neal had nine points, three rebounds and two assists as the Broncos beat Virginia State 64-56. The win puts Fayetteville State (21-7) into the NCAA Division II postseason. The selection show is scheduled for this Sunday.

The Broncos held Virginia State to 14.3% shooting from 3-point range with 18 turnovers. The Broncos held a 32-17 halftime lead.

Fayetteville State reached the finals after a 62-53 win over Virginia Union last Friday. O’Neal had nine points, two steals and two rebounds in the win.

The Broncos started the CIAA Tournament with a 72-54 win last Wednesday over Bluefield State. O’Neal had 10 points in that win.
