Our office is monitoring an approaching cold front that has the potential to bring strong storms and damaging winds to our area tomorrow. Forecast details for Beaufort County includes.

Winds

  • South winds are expected to increase after midnight tonight, becoming sustained between 15 and 20 mph after sunrise tomorrow morning and continuing through sunset. Most areas are forecasted to experience frequent gust of 25 to 35 mph between 10am and 5pm.

Rain / Thunderstorms

  • Rain is expected to move into our areas around 11am tomorrow and continue through 9pm.
    • Our heaviest rains are forecasted to occur between 1pm and 6pm tomorrow afternoon with most areas receiving about an inch.
  • Strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, damaging winds and possible tornados are forecasted to move through our area between 1pm and 6pm tomorrow afternoon.
    • Beaufort Co. has been included in the “Enhanced” weather outlook, meaning numerous severe storms are possible.

From the National Weather Service:

A strong cold front will move through ENC Wednesday, and will bring with it the potential for multiple minor to moderate land hazards and moderate to significant marine impacts. Attached is the latest full briefing regarding this event.

Key Points

– Winds outside of storms could be hazardous on their own

– Hazardous seas pose threat for minor beach erosion and localized ocean overwash for beaches vulnerable to southerly-southeasterly swell/winds

– Severe thunderstorms: The severe thunderstorm risk has increased. The greatest threat will be damaging wind gusts (60+ mph), but there will also be a low-end tornado threat

– Periods of heavy rain: Rainfall totals on the order of 0.5″ to 1.5″, causing minor flooding
