Margie Barker Peaden, age 89, a resident of Washington, died Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington with Candler Barker and Rev. Linwood Lewis officiating. A private burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Brett Lilley, Daniel O’Merry III, Phillip Peaden, Chuck Smith, Wyatt Harvey, and Terry Lancaster will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers, Robert Jefferson, and Tony Apple.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday, prior to the service at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory of Washington, and other times at the home.
Margie was born on February 12, 1936, in Pamlico County, to the late J.C. Barker, Sr. and Lilly Gibson Barker. On November 30, 1985, she married Robert Louis Peaden, who preceded her in death on January 22, 2017. Margie worked at National Spinning for 8 years, Hamilton Beach for 5 years, Food Land for 20 years and Beaufort County Community College cafeteria for 4 years. After retirement she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of Graceway Pentecostal Holiness Church. Margie loved sewing, cooking, and helping other people. She was preceded in death by her brothers, J.C. Barker, Jr., Roosevelt Barker, Gilbert Barker and Floyd Barker, sisters, Lillie Mae Pegram, Edna Lancaster, Christine Modlin, Arzella Midyette, Carol Lancaster, and Elizabeth Barker.
Survivors include her children, Sherry Jefferson (Jesse) of Washington, Ottis Ray Lewis, Jr. (Nicole Sheehan) of Washington, Robert Louis “Robbie” Peaden, Jr. (Stacey) of Washington and Melissa Peaden of Washington, sisters, Ethel Warner of Chesapeake and Bea Apple of Washington, brother, Candler Barker of Washington, grandchildren, Samantha Minton, Phillip Wayne Peaden (Morgan), Miranda Taffer (John), Jessica Jefferson and Jesselyn Lilley (Brett), four great grandchildren, her fur babies, Papi, Ruger, Tank, Klein and Chooch.
