Fire departments from throughout eastern North Carolina will participate in a water shuttle exercise in Washington on Saturday, March 15. Expect a heavy presence of tanker fire trucks and similar emergency operations vehicles traveling around Old Ford and P.S. Jones Middle School from approximately 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
A water shuttle operation transports water from a static source (such as a lake, pond, river or creek) to a fire scene in a remote area with limited hydrant service or no hydrant service.
Training exercises like this help emergency management officials and local agencies sharpen their skills and collaborate with each other. These exercises provide an opportunity to evaluate emergency protocols and identify areas that need improvement.
