Write Again . . . Optimism and pessimism

Something there is about spring, you know, the “awakening “ time of the year, that seems to give one a lift, a boost, a pickup in outlook.

It’s a good feeling, one of at least a bit of hope, optimism, and even gratitude at having made it through yet another winter, even though those who live in much colder climes might chide us for thinking we know what “real” winter weather is. Early spring is always a bit up and down, temp-wise, however.

Will Rogers was noted for saying, “Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it.”

And so it goes. On to another topic.

I make it a point to always read “Pastor Perspective” in our paper. Whereas some of the folks of the cloth (and some of the collar too) “scripturalize” a bit much for me, I read the column in its entirety each week.

Sometimes something will really stand out when I read what these good folk write. On March 3, the writer offered us an opinion and a caveat, with respect to what is now taking place in this land we love. In so doing, one might surmise that some of his flock might be less than pleased. I would hope his insightful views would be perceived in a helpful light.

The column I refer to was titled “Who owns your soul?” Here, then, is a bit excerpted from it:

“The current administration will forever alter the fabric of our nation, and I don’t believe in a positive way.”

“I am obligated, as someone invested in the well-being of friends and strangers alike, to creatively and non-violently resist those who are nakedly grabbing power and quickly constructing a new type of American monarchy for the 21st century.”

For those of us who are concerned about the future of this land we love, we may feel virtually helpless to really do much about it.

There’s one thing we can do, at the very least. We can ask for, pray for mercy.

That, we can do.

Peace.
