On Tuesday, March 18, deputies and detention officers with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office transported all Beaufort County inmates from the Pitt County Detention Center (PCDC) to the Beaufort County Detention Center.
Sheriff Scott Hammonds utilized the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association’s Sheriffs Helping Sheriffs Program to coordinate the emergency evacuation of the Beaufort County Detention Center due to the fire that occurred at approximately 6:35 p.m. on March 12.
Sheriff Hammonds reached out to Pitt County Sheriff Paula Dance who provided personnel and space in the Pitt County Detention Center for housing Beaufort County inmates. Hammonds provided staffing from the Beaufort County Detention Center to cover the supervision of Beaufort County inmates while they were house at PCDC.
PCDC staff provided assistance during the admission and release of inmates from PCDC and assisted with any needs during the house of Beaufort County inmates.
Hammonds and the staff of Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office are grateful for all the resources and support provided by Sheriff Paula Dance and the staff of Pitt County Sheriff’s Office. Staff from both agencies worked together to make the transitions and operations a huge success.
