Joseph Taylor Buck, Jr., age 35, passed away on April 5, 2025 at ECU Health Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Taylor was born on May 7, 1989 to parents Joseph Taylor Buck, Sr. and Susan Brown Callahan. He was a lifelong resident of Washington, NC and attended Washington High School, where he was a member of the JROTC. Following high school, he attended Beaufort Community College and graduated from the basic law enforcement training (BLET) program in 2010. He went on to work in a sales position with Pamlico Distributors, then Johnson Brothers – Mutual Distributing of NC. Taylor volunteered 17 years with Bunyan Fire Department, where he was certified. He made many strong and lasting friendships through the fire department and loved spending his time helping others.

Taylor enjoyed all things related to the Pamlico River – it was his happy place. The endless summer days, boat rides, and watching the sun set with Taylor will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, loving spirit, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Taylor is survived by his parents, Joseph Taylor Buck, Sr. and Susan Brown Callahan (Jack); sister, Meredith Buck Rawls (Brad); nephew, Austin Bradford Rawls; and niece, Mary Whitley Rawls. He also leaves behind his grandmother, Olga Buck; aunts, Brenda Buck Phillips and Lisa Brown Ruark (Stephen); uncles Brick Brown (Mary Craig) and Douglas Chrismon; cousins, Jim Phillips (Shelby), Caroline Rawls (Bonner), Elizabeth Harris, William Harris, Erica Chrismon, Allison Chrismon, Whitley Brown (Abby), and Annie Brown Montague.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Milton Selby Brown, Jr. and Delon Hodges Buck; his aunt, Sherry Buck Chrismon; and his grandmother, Betty Lou Brown, who held a very special place in Taylor’s heart.
A celebration of Taylor’s life will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, 101 N. Bonner St. Washington, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather and reminisce immediately following the service in All Saint’s Hall.
