The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) confirmed today that an investigation has been initiated involving Pinetown Volunteer Fireman’s Association and Pinetown Rescue Squad and Emergency Medical Services. SBI is investigating the possibility of embezzlement of Pinetown Fire Department funds. A request for an investigation into department funds was sent to SBI from District Attorney Tom Anglim.

“The SBI is in the early stages of this investigation, and we are actively working the case,” a spokesperson for SBI told The Daily News. “As this investigation has just begun, the Bureau has no additional details at this time.”

No charges have been announced at this time.
