Darrell Paul Holland, age 80 a resident of Washington, died Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at The Service League of Greenville Hospice House.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening, April 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Darrell was born on November 10, 1944, in Beaufort County, to the late Joe Paul Holland and Delora Williams Holland. He attended school at Old Ford and Washington High School. Darrell was a US Navy veteran. On April 5, 1968, he married Sherry Brame, whom he was married to for 57 years. Growing up, Darrell enjoyed working on cars, engines and anything he could build with his hands. He was a hard worker and dedicated to his friends and family. Darrell worked 37 years as a foreman and heavy equipment operator at Texas Gulf, retiring in 2005. Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors with his buddy and brother Gary. He loved sharing his passion for wildlife with others and at 75 years old was still scouting for hunters from all over the US. Everyone looked forward to seeing Darrell when they came to hunt The Cherry Farm Hunting Preserve, which he and his best friend, Elwood Cherry, developed over several decades. Darrell was a storyteller, and you were going to hear those stories whether you had heard them 100 times before. Darrell was stubborn, but fair and if he loved you, he loved you. He enjoyed life and was not ready to go beating his life expectancy from his cancer diagnosis by 3 1/2 years. He attended Wharton Trinity United Methodist Church and Tranters Creek Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gary Holland and Kenneth Holland, sister, Barbara Beddard.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Brame Holland of the home, daughter, Lisa Holland Mills of Williamston, brother, Waverly “Bear” Holland (Judy) of Pinetown, his dog, Peanut, grand dog, Fuzzy, cat, BT, two grandchildren Noah Mills and Nicholas Mills and two special children he called Cinderella and Cowboy.
Darrell’s grandson Nicholas stepped up and helped take care of his grandparents. Noah loved the same things as his grandfather, and they enjoyed talking about trucks.
Special thanks to the beautiful staff at the Hospice House of Greenville and the Oncology staff in Washington.
