P.S. Jones Middle School recognized the eighth graders on its golf team after a five-team meet on Wednesday at Washington Yacht & Country Club.
Those players — Larry Woolard, Gabby Smith, Gentry Sadler, coach Lane Raper, Adrian Villa, Dawson Raper and A.J. Potter — will move on to Washington High School starting in August.
The Demons finished third in the meet with a team score of 161. St. Peter’s won with a 135 score while Northeast Carolina Prep was second with a 156. Teach School had a 164 and Chocowinity was fifth with a 172.
Cohen Hogan and Harrison Botros each shot a 44 over nine holes to tie for first. Chocowinity’s Brayden Howard was third with a 46. Woolard was fourth along with Barnett Fleming, who each shot a 47.
“Yeah, the eighth graders have done well,” said P.S. Jones coach Lane Raper. “Five returners, and every week, our team score has gone down. Individual scoring has gone down every week.
“It’s been good, the kids listen, they want to learn. So, good deal.”
