The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will close Pamlico Beach Road from Tuesday, April 15 through Thursday, April 17 to replace three failing crosslines. Two of the crosslines are between Church Road and Schram’s Beach Road. The third is located just southeast of Schram’s Beach Road. The road is expected to be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
There is no available detour route for these closures, NCDOT said. “We will be coordinating with Beaufort County Emergency Management and there will be provisions on site for emergency vehicles to get around the closure is necessary.”
According to Beaufort County Emergency Management Director, Chris Newkirk, “Sidney Fire Department is planning to have personnel staged at their Pamlico Beach substation while work is underway. In order to minimize patient contact delays, BC EMS will be staging a spare EMS unit near the construction site each day, which will allow responding EMS personnel to exit their primary vehicle, walk through the construction site, and enter a fully stocked spare unit to continue their response. NCDOT will have rock onsite that can be used to fill in the roadway opening should emergency access/egress is needed.”
