May I have your attention please

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I can remember the days of SW Snowden Elementary and Middle School located in Aurora. The school secretary and announcer was Mrs. Christine Hooker and each morning she would make announcements. When she came across the intercom with the important announcements, she would always open up with six words, “May I have your attention please,” and then proceed with the announcements of the day.

Life can have many negative distractions and many times it can victimize many in negative ways. God being a God of love, mercy, and grace, He allows things to take place in life with the intent to get our attention.
God is saying every day to us all “may I have your attention please.”

Jeremiah 5:21v., explains to us the futility of idols in how it can impose a spiritual deafness to those who refuse to listen to what God is trying to tell them.
If one finds themselves at such a point, it could very well be that their attention is on something or someone other than God.

Even in Judges 6:16v. God commanded Gideon to lead the Israelites in the fight against the Midianites. It was in this verse that Gideon received his first confirmation from God that he would gain the victory over the Midianites.

However, his attention was more upon losing and being defeated. He was also blaming God for Israel being in the predicament it was in. However, later in the text Gideon finally aimed his attention towards God, all that was told to him concerning victory came to pass.

One of the main reasons people fail to render their attention to God and other positive entities is self-solution. They try to fix things on their own and manufacture success. They constantly find themselves chasing things that feed their flesh.

I was in a conversation with an individual some years ago about inviting them to church, their reply was, “I thank you but I ‘d rather not go until I get right, I don’t want to go to church wrong.” My reply was, “if that be the case you will never make it to the church.”

God wanted their attention to let them know you didn’t get in that predicament by yourself, and you will never find your way out of it alone. My witness to them was an opportunity God sent their way seeking and requesting their attention.

One of our children’s church acronyms at New Growth Unlimited Ministries is Listen and Learn, if you listen you will learn. Once you render your attention to God, listen for the message and you will definitely learn much.

King David in Psalm 127:1 Let us know if we refuse to turn our attention to God and allow Him to make repairs and do new construction in our life, anything we do will certainly fall apart.
When Jesus explains in Revelations 3:20v. that when He arrives at the door of your heart knocking, He’s saying “May I have your attention please.”

Give God your undivided attention, one day you will be glad you did.
