Washington, NC – Get out your favorite Derby dresses, suits and hats for a fun afternoon to benefit the Shepard Cancer Center in Washington. The 3rd annual Horses, Hats and Hope Kentucky Derby fundraiser presented by United Bank will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Washington Yacht and Country Club.
The event will feature dinner, drinks, Derby games and a live viewing of the 151st Run for the Roses Kentucky Derby. The funds raised will support the work of the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center and its efforts to improve the mind, body and spirit of cancer patients, survivors and caregivers as well as promote prevention and early detection of cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, one in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Cancer continues to be a leading cause of death in Beaufort and Hyde counties and the top ranked cancers – breast, colon, lung and prostate – can be detected early with regular screenings.
The team at the Shepard Cancer Center takes every step of the cancer journey with their patients and their families from Beaufort, Hyde and surrounding counties. The Center treats many different types of cancer with the most current technology and highest clinical standards. Their holistic approach to care also includes preventive measures, educational resources, clinical trials as well as support and survivorship services.
