Mr. Joseph Albert Ayers, age 88, a resident of Washington, NC died Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Ridgewood Rehabilitation & Living Center in Washington.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, in the chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington officiated by Reggie Braziel.  A burial will follow in Martin Memorial Gardens in Williamston.  The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 PM until the funeral hour at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory.

Joe was born in Martin County on July 5, 1936, the son of the late Prince and Lizzie Mae Ayers of Williamston, NC. In 1957, Joe served his country in the U.S. Army, and on November 22, 1959, he married the former Peggy Ann Jackson who preceded in death on May 10, 2024.  Joe worked in auto parts sales for over 38 years.

Joe was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ for over 60 years. He was also a former member of the Old Ford Ruritan Club and the Ridgewood Development Association.

Survivors include his son: Steven Ayers and his wife Jody of Winterville; sisters: Linda Brown and her husband Billy of Currituck, and Doris Beacham of Williamston; and two grandchildren, Samantha and Megan Ayers, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, his dear wife Peggy of 64 years, his oldest son Joseph A. “Al” Ayers Jr. who died in 1973 at the age of five; a sister: Joyce Bowen; and brothers: Roger Ayers and Jimmy Ayers.
