Larry Wayne Picard, 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, April 20, 2025.

Born on August 12, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, Larry was the son of the late Robert Picard and Thelma Alligood Picard. He was a graduate of Bath High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army from October 1965 to September 1968. As a member of the 82nd Airborne Division, he was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Era and remained a proud veteran throughout his life.

On June 8, 1969, Larry married the love of his life, Judy Heath of Chocowinity, North Carolina. Over the years, Larry was a successful entrepreneur and businessman. He was part owner of P & G Welding alongside his longtime friend, Alton Griffin, and later opened several popular restaurants in Washington, NC, including Charlie Tom’s Restaurant, BBQ Station, and Riverwalk Steaks. His work ethic and hospitality left a lasting mark on the community.

Larry was an original member of East Tenth Church of Christ, founded by his uncle, the late John Edward Alligood. For most of his married life, he and his family were devoted members of Beaver Dam Church of Christ.

Later in life, Larry and Judy moved to Carteret County, where they settled in the home he built on the White Oak River in Stella—a place he deeply cherished.

Larry was preceded in death by his beloved canine companion, Bolt Man.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judy Heath Picard; his daughter, Christal Picard Lempin and husband, David, of Stella; his grandson, Christian Lambert of Stella; his granddaughter, Kelsea Nixon of Belhaven; four great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, a nephew, great-nieces, and a great-nephew.

Larry had a passion for golf and was happiest on the course with friends or relaxing on the front porch, always ready to share a story or lend an ear. He never met a stranger, and his warmth, humor, and generous spirit will be deeply missed.
