The Washington High School girls’ soccer team will start the Class 2A state playoffs at home and could stay there for a while if things work out right.
The Pam Pack (13-2-1) are the No. 6 seed in the East Region bracket, which was released by the NC High School Athletic Association on Friday. Washington will face No. 27 South Granville (8-14) on Monday.
A win could put the Pam Pack against No. 11 and Coastal Plains Conference foe East Carteret, if it wins its match with No. 22 Eastern Wayne, which will also be played Monday. The second-round games will be on Wednesday.
Washington has won nine straight and tied North Pitt since a 5-0 loss to Richlands on March 18. The Pack have outscored those opponents 55-2 since that loss and have recorded eight shutouts.

In Class 1A, Southside (11-8-1) is the No. 21 team and will travel to No. 12 East Wake Academy (9-6-1). The Seahawks finished behind CPC competitor Lejeune, the No. 3 seed, and East Carteret.
The Seahawks have won two of their last three matches, the last a 1-0 win at Perquimans on Wednesday. That win came after losing at home to the Pirates, 4-0, on April 16.
