Washington softball, PCA teams fall in state playoffs

South Granville’s softball team got a run in the sixth and seventh innings to rally and beat Washington, 4-3, on Thursday in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
Washington saw its season end at 17-7. South Granville will face Eastern Plains Conference foe Farmville Central, which beat Bunn, 3-2, in the third round.
Washington got a run in the third and two in the fourth to take a 3-2 lead before South Granville’s rally. The Pack were held to four hits, but Samantha Ward (1-for-3) hit a home run and Honor Edwards (1-for-3) drove in another run.
Alani Hyatt scored the other run off Edwards’ hit. Addison Miller had Washington’s other hit.
PCA SOCCER SEASON ENDS
The Oakwood School ended the season for the Pungo Christian Academy girls’ soccer team with a 2-1 win on Thursday.
The Raiders, the defending Class 1A NC Independent Schools Athletic Association state champs, ended their season at 7-6-1.
Freshman Lexy Tate scored a goal in the second half for the Raiders. It was her 16th goal of the season. She scored at least one goal in each of the Raiders’ games this season. She netted three goals each in two wins over Ridgecroft earlier in the season.
PCA BASEBALL, SOFTBALL FALL TO RIDGECROFT
Pungo Christian’s baseball team fell 7-3 in the second round of the NC Independent Schools Athletic Association state playoffs.
The Raiders (12-9), the host team, were the No. 2 seed while Ridgecroft (13-7) was the No. 7 seed. Ridgecroft beat PCA in the Tarheel Independent Conference tournament last week.
Ridgecroft faces Kerr-Vance Academy in the third round on Tuesday.
PCA’s softball team saw its season end with a 6-4 loss at Ridgecroft. The Raiders’ season ended at 6-12.
Pungo was the No. 5 seed while Ridgecroft (10-5) was the No. 4 seed in the NCISAA Division III softball playoffs. Ridgecroft goes to Cape Fear Christian Academy for a game on Tuesday.
