Roxboro Community ends Northside’s season; Micah Whitley falls in states

Roxboro Community junior first baseman Karrie Obie broke the NC High School Athletic Association’s single-season home run record when she hit her 21st on Friday in a 11-1 in over Northside on Friday in the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs.

Roxboro scored two runs in each of the first four innings before scoring three in the fifth to end it.

Roxboro Community (18-5) will face Chatham Central in the third round of the state playoffs next week.

Northside’s season ended at 13-11.

Michah Whitley falls in first round of 2A state tennis final

Washington’s Micah Whitley lost in the first round of the Class 2A tennis final on Friday.

Whitley, the Eastern Plains Conference champion and the Pam Pack’s No. 1 singles player, fell to Lex Gu of Raleigh Charter, 6-0, 6-0.

Whitley also took part in the 2A East Regional last weekend, qualifying for states with a third-place finish.
