These guys were fun to coach

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

My two best college players were Mike Weaver and Pernell Griffin at linebacker and quarterback respectively. They were not the best that I ever coached though. Lamont Moore was the best linebacker that I ever coached. He didn’t have the publicity that Pernell received.

Both received All Conference and All State and recognition but Pernell played in the Shrine Bowl game which helped him receive more recognition.

Keith Roach’s son, Brad, was probably the best quarterback that I had the pleasure of coaching. He took a bad team to the state championship and a good team back to the state championship.

It was hard to compare the two quarterbacks aside from the height of the two. One was 6’ 7″ and Weaver was barely 6’ 0” and after he got to college he learned that weight is more important!

D’Brian Huggins was another player that got major attention from the media. He set the Kenan Stadium record for 327 yards for the most yards rushing in a game. He probably was the one person as a leader and competitor, I have ever coached.

He could have been the MVP for offensive player of the game and defensive MVP of the game because he played both offense and defense.

I treated them like my kids-all the same- they are all proud of each other . I love them and would do anything for them! They still love me too.

They were best of times and with best of friends and the best of places ,Washington N.C. The Original Washington!
