WASHINGTON, N.C. – Starting June 1, 2025, Beaufort County residents will have an easier way to obtain birth certificates from any of North Carolina’s other counties from 1971 forward.
The Beaufort County Register of Deeds office will begin issuing out-of-county birth certificates for a $24 fee (this includes a search fee for the certificate in the NC state registry and one certified copy of the birth certificate). Residents who order in person at the Register of Deeds Office can receive their certificates the same day. An online portal will also be available for ordering at BeaufortCountyNC.gov/237/Register-of-Deeds.
Register of Deeds Carolyn Garris said her office is excited to offer this more convenient service to the community. Garris will also begin issuing statewide death certificates in the near future.
The Register of Deeds office is located inside the Beaufort County Courthouse at 112 W. 2nd St., Washington, N.C. 27889. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
