Mrs. Sue Civils Paul, 79, of Godwin, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn. She was born in Beaufort County, on October 22, 1945, to the late Alex Nathan and Lenora Letchworth Civils. She is preceded in death by her husband Moses Paul; brothers, Randall Buck, Jr., Nathan “Pollock”, Ronald Earl Civils, Sr., CPL A. Jason Civils, Baby Boy Civils; sisters, Louise Buck Rough, Josie Civils Dawson, Rosa Mae Civils Ormond, Martha Civils Woolard; and stepson, Rodney Paul.
Sue will be lovingly remembered for her radiant blue eyes and the warmth she shared with everyone around her. A gifted piano player, she devoted her musical talents to the Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church, where she was a cherished member for many years. Sue had a remarkable gift for remembering birthdays and special occasions, always making friends and family feel seen and celebrated. She was also an exceptional cook, best known for her delicious dressing and unforgettable homemade fudge, both of which brought comfort and joy to countless gatherings. Her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generous spirit leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Casey. Burial will follow at Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Ted Modlin and wife Cindy; daughter, Jenneth Honeycutt and husband Jamie; grandchildren, Alexander Kent Modlin, Dean William Modlin, Joshua Conner Modlin, Grace Olivia Honeycutt, and Faith Elizabeth Honeycutt; and stepsons, Mitchel Paul and Ashley Paul
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
