Laura Ann Hobart, 83, of Chocowinity, North Carolina passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Laura was born on July 26, 1941, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to parents Dominic and Marion (Miller) Lepore. She attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where she met her beloved husband, Donald (Don) Osborn Hobart Jr. Don and Laura were married at Sacred Heart Church in Dover, New Jersey in 1962 and enjoyed 63 beautiful years together.
Laura and Don raised their two children, Nancy (Hobart) Schad and Donald Hobart in Sparta, New Jersey, before retiring to Cypress Landing in Chocowinity, NC in 1999. Laura was a loyal volunteer at the North Carolina Estuarium for more than ten years.
Laura, known to many of her friends as Pudgie, was caring, artistic, and had a vibrant competitive spirit. She enjoyed playing golf, tennis, and bridge with friends, and board games with her grandchildren. Her adventurous nature led her to travel extensively, spending summers in Maine and Charlotte, taking numerous trips across the United States and Europe with friends, and a regular patron at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta, GA each April. Laura cherished her time with her grandchildren, dedicating hours each year to selecting the perfect Christmas ornaments for them and the family pets. An avid collector of ornate tea trays and a talented cook, her spaghetti and meatballs, and chocolate chip cookie recipes, will be passed down and cherished for generations.
Laura is survived by her husband, Donald Osborn Hobart Jr., her two children, Nancy (Hobart) Schad and Donald Hobart; and their spouses, William Schad and Shaye (Surratt) Hobart; her grandchildren, Sara (Schad) Clarke, William Schad, Ellie Schad, Dominic Hobart, and Lauren Hobart; her sister Delores (Lepore) Redshaw, and brother Daniel Lepore.
Laura’s family will hold a private ceremony and celebration of life at a future date.
Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to assist the Hobart family.
