Stanley Friedman, age 85, a resident of Washington, NC died on Monday, May 19, 2025 at his home.

Stanley retired in 2003 as Director of Special Investigations with the Delaware Attorney General’s Office after 20 years of service. Prior to that, he retired as Inspector of Wilmington Delaware Police Department with 22 years of service.

Stanley attended and graduated in 1958 from Wilmington High School and Brandywine Junior College in Wilmington, Delaware. After his education he joined the National Guard, then the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1962 as a Recon Marine, 2nd Battalion.  He was actively involved in many organizations, member and past President of the Delaware/Maryland Chapter of the FBI National Academy, Kiwanis Club of Wilmington, Delaware, (where he was 1969 Recipient of the Police Officer of the Year), Masonic Lodge, State of Delaware Fraternal Order of Police, Delaware Association of Police, Eastern Armed Robbery Organization. In his career in law enforcement, he received thirty-five citizen and department commendations for outstanding service rendered to the citizens of the City of Wilmington, Delaware.

Additions to his accomplishments, he implemented the first Robbery Squad (City of Wilmington Detective Division), Project Director Crime Resistance Program, Crime against the Elderly, Project Director Special Sting Operation (Operation Flytrap, State of Delaware), implemented first Zero Based Budgeting Process (Department of Police), FBI National Academy Graduate, assisted in the Development of Eastern Armed Robbery Organization (National).

Stanley was a joint owner of the Wilmington Blue Rocks Minor League Baseball Team in Wilmington, Delaware, they were an affiliate of the Kansas City Royals Baseball Team. He enjoyed many baseball games and hot dogs with their family.  He loved his University of Delaware Football Blue Hens and was looking forward to their new NCAAF Schedule in 2025.

He retired to Washington, North Carolina in 2004 and became very involved in the community. He was on the Board of the Salvation Army and the Board of Adjustments of the City of Washington. Stanley was one of the original developers of Moss Landing on the Waterfront.

Stanley was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 17, 1939, to the late Michael Friedman and Frances Hendler Friedman. On June 7, 1984, he married Alma Lamm Friedman who is left behind to cherish his memory. They were married for almost 41 years of a wonderful marriage. Stanley was a very caring, loving person to his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone. He loved people and was proud to tell stories of his careers and share with anyone who was willing to listen. He was of Jewish faith but attended First Methodist Church of Washington with his wife and was a church Usher.

In addition to his wife, Alma, the love of his family includes a son, Steven Michael Friedman (Kathy), daughter, Sheri Lynn Friedman Grebe, (Jamie), four grandchildren, Scott Michael Friedman, Jamie Rae Friedman, Logan James Grebe and Elizabeth Frances Grebe, four sisters, Bernadine Webb (Walter), twin sister Arlene Friedman, Tevvy Vaudry, Zelda Biddle (Robert) and a brother, Robert Friedman and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two sisters, Erwina (Winnie) Silver and Florence Swink.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Monday, May 26, 2025 in Wesley Hall at the First Methodist Church, 304 West Second Street, Washington, NC  27889.

His funeral will be, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary of the First Methodist Church, 304 West Second Street, Washington, NC  27889 officiated by Rev. Ken Hall, Rev. Stephen Bazan and Rabbi Rose.  Coffin Escort, Major General Gordon Nash, Retired United States Marine Corps. Pallbearers include Ed Stone, Jim Buckman, Bill Davis, Dr. Mark Reams, Dr. Richard Lewis, Dr. Christian Lige, Kevin Whitaker and Anthony Kent.

Burial will be Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 10:00 am in the National Memorial Cemetery in Quantico, Virginia, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA  22172.
