Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The family is sad to announce the passing of their beloved brother, father and uncle after two years of declining health.  John was a friend to all, always willing to help anyone he could.  He was a hard worker all of his life.  After growing up on a tobacco farm, he went to work for the telephone company for thirty-seven years.  After retiring he opened his own electrical business, WECO (Ward Electrical Company) and taught at Beaufort Community College.  He was also a member of the Washington Masonic Ore Lodge and served as Master Mason.  Most importantly, John loved the Lord and served him all his life.  He attended and served at Everett’s Church of Christ.

He leaves behind two sons, Dale Ward (Rocky Mount, NC) and Drew Ward (Aiken, SC), two sisters Frances Latham (Dal) and Gail Windley (Joe), his special friend Marie Skinner and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife JoAnn Whitaker Ward, his parents Demby and Lillian Ward and sister Betty Ward Jenkins.

The family would like to thank all the many people who supported him during his time of sickness, especially caretaker Diane Laws, as well as all the many friends who visited and prayed with him.  Many thanks to Autumnfield, Beaufort County Hospital and Amedisys Hospice.

The funeral service will be at Everett’s Church of Christ, 48 S. White Post Road, Pinetown, NC at 2:00 pm, Thursday May 29, 2025, officiated by Dennis R. Davis.  Visitation will be at 1:00 pm at Everett’s Church of Christ.  Burial will be at Pamlico Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Dennie Smith, Joe Windley, Donnie Cutler, Jr., Jerry Cutler, Chris Jackson and Toby Woolard.  Honorary pallbearer, Dalton Latham.

The family will be at John’s home to receive visitors.
